INDUSTRY

At The Dance Studio, we have a range of classes targeted towards preparing our advanced dancers for work within the New Zealand dance industry. These classes focus on different styles and providing dancers with experience learning from a variety of industry professionals in a fast paced environment, much like that of an audition.

These are the classes we would recommend for those looking to diversify their movement base and prepare for industry auditions.

Advanced Commercial Jazz

Ages 15+
Commercial dance is often an amalgamation of genres such as jazz, hip hop and contemporary while also pulling technical influence from ballet. This class provides students with a taste of the commercial dance industry in New Zealand. Students will learn a variety of styles through challenging choreography within a fast paced class.
This is a non syllabus class. Dancers must have dance experience.
Dancers will learn a show item in term four and perform on stage in our end of year concert.
Senior Choreography for Performance

Ages 15+
Students will learn routines that utilise technique and performative styles drawn from genres such as jazz, contemporary and jazz funk. Dancers will gain confidence in picking up this varity of styles at pace and will learn to adatp thier performance for each style. Students may also work on choreographic tasks and experiment with free styling during routines.
This is a non syllabus class.
Students will work towards a show item to be performed on stage in our end of year concert.
Jazz Repertoire

Ages 13+
Jazz repertoire students will apply their advanced technique within a range of combinations targeting different styles of jazz.
This is a non syllabus class.
Dancers will learn a show item in term four and perform on stage in our end of year concert.
Contemporary Repertoire

Ages 13+
Contemporary repertoire students will apply their advanced technique within a range of combinations targeting different styles of contemporary.
This is a non syllabus class.
Dancers will learn a show item in term four and perform on stage in our end of year concert.
Lyrical Repertoire

Ages 16+
Lyrical repertoire students will apply their advanced technique within a range of combinations targeting different styles of lyrical.
This is a non syllabus class.
Dancers will learn a show item in term four and perform on stage in our end of year concert.
Latin Repertoire

Ages 13+
Latin repertoire students will learn the principles of Latin technique while gaining confidence and experience in high heels. Students will combine technical strength with fluid hip movements to encompass this style. Dancers will often work in pairs and learn how to dance with a partner.

Dancers will learn a show item in term four and perform on stage in our end of year concert.
